Class 12 Chemistry: Chapter 1 - Solutions
Comprehensive Revision Notes and Video Lecture
Revision Notes
Solutions: A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances. The substance present in the largest quantity is called the solvent, and the other is the solute.
Types of Solutions: Based on the physical state of the solute and solvent (solid, liquid, or gas).
Concentration Terms: Molarity, Molality, Normality, Mole Fraction, Mass Percent, and Volume Percent.
Colligative Properties: Properties that depend on the number of solute particles, not their nature (e.g., boiling point elevation, freezing point depression).
Raoult's Law: The partial vapor pressure of a component in a solution is directly proportional to its mole fraction.
Henry's Law: The solubility of a gas in a liquid is directly proportional to the pressure of the gas above the liquid.
Ideal and Non-Ideal Solutions: Differentiation based on the behavior of solutions when mixed (e.g., ideal solutions obey Raoult's Law, non-ideal solutions deviate).
